Nokia Purchases Moore Microprocessor Patent™ Portfolio License

CUPERTINO, Calif. – May 3, 2007 – Alliacense today announced that Nokia, a world leader in mobile communications, has purchased a Moore Microprocessor Patent™ (MMP) Portfolio license from The TPL Group. In becoming the first major mobile handset manufacturer to purchase an MMP Portfolio license, Nokia joins a distinguished roster of 16 other global manufacturers that have become MMP licensees.

“The feature richness of mobile phones would not be possible without exploiting the design techniques engendered by the MMP Portfolio,” said Mike Davis, Alliacense Senior VP of Licensing.  “Such techniques are fundamental in the design of microprocessors and enable higher performance and lower cost in a host of digital products ranging from mobile phones and portable music players to communications infrastructure and medical equipment to automobiles, which today deploy dozens of microprocessors.”

The sweeping scope of applications using MMP design techniques continues to encourage manufacturers from around the globe to become MMP licensees. Since January 2006, HP, Casio, Fujitsu, Sony, Nikon, Seiko Epson, Pentax, Olympus, Kenwood, Agilent, Lexmark, Schneider Electric, NEC Corporation, Funai Electric, SanDisk and Sharp Corporation have all purchased MMP Portfolio licenses. By design, the MMP Licensing Program rewards early movers in specific industry segments by subjecting subsequent licensees in those same segments to progressively higher royalty rates.

About the MMP Portfolio

Named after legendary inventor Charles “Chuck” Moore, the MMP Portfolio includes seven US patents as well as their European and Japanese counterparts fundamental to the design of modern microprocessors, microcontrollers and system-on-chip devices.  With origins that date back to 1980s collaboration between Moore and The TPL Group, the MMP Portfolio today is jointly owned by privately held The TPL Group and publicly held Patriot Scientific Corporation (PTSC.OB).
